چکیده

There is growing interest in using biodiesel in place of or in blends with petrodiesel in diesel engines; however, biodiesel oxidation chemistry is complicated to directly model and existing surrogate kinetic models are very large, making them computationally expensive. The present study describes a method for predicting the ignition behavior of blends of n-heptane and methyl butanoate, fuels whose blends have been used in the past as a surrogate for biodiesel. The autoignition is predicted using a multistep (8-step) model in order to reduce computational time and make this a viable tool for implementation into engine simulation codes. A detailed reaction mechanism for n-heptane-methyl butanoate blends was used as a basis for validating the multistep model results. The ignition delay trends predicted by the multistepmodel for the n-heptane-methyl butanoate blends matched well with that of the detailed CHEMKIN model for the majority of conditions tested.

Modeling the Auto-Ignition of Oxygenated Fuels using a Multistep Model

The research presented here describes the application of a multistep (8-step) autoignition model to oxygenated fuels such as alcohols and esters in a rapid compression machine. This modeling concept is aimed at capturing the ignition behavior of new oxygenated fuel blends, where detailed or reduced chemical kinetics data are not available. The predicted ignition delays from the multistep autoig...

Autoignition Characterization of Primary Reference Fuels and n- Heptane/n-Butanol mixtures in a Constant Volume Combustion Device and Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition Engine

Premixed or partially premixed compression ignition modes, such as homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI), have been a particular focus among researchers because of their potential to deliver enhanced fuel efficiency and meet exhaust emissions mandates without the addition of costly after-treatment technologies as currently required with traditional spark ignition (SI) and direct inject...

Autoignition of Binary Fuel Blends of n-Butanol and n-Heptane in a Rapid Compression Machine

Autoignition of binary blends of n-butanol and n-heptane was studied in a rapid compression machine at an equivalence ratio of 0.4 and a compressed pressure of 20 bar with the compressed temperature varying from 700 K to 907 K. Within the temperature range covered in this study, no cool flame or negative temperature coefficient behavior was observed for neat n-butanol. With the presence of n-he...

Modeling the effects of biodiesel-diesel fuel blends on CO2 emission of a diesel engine by response surface methodology

Nowadays biodiesel is receiving more attention as a most important renewable energy for using in diesel engines. Inthis research, the application of Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was highlighted to investigate the effects of biodiesel-diesel blends (B0, B20, B50 and B100), engine operating parameters (engine load and  speed) on CO2 emission of a diesel engine. The experiments were conducte...
